Show DARK STREETS DON'T GO WELL "To the honorable mayor and oity council of Gunnison. Gentlemen: We, the undersigned citizens of the city of Gunnison petition for jour consideration the plaeing of electric lights on the streets of our city." Dark streets don't satisfy w ith ele c trie lights at command. The foregoing petition has bejn circulated the past few days for signatures and is meeting a hearty response generally, The city council at tomorrow's session will be asked to give it consideration A quite satisfactorily electric light service has cow been operatiug here six weeks, but the city authorities have fait that the finances at com- mand would not justify their contracting con-tracting to have the streets lighted, But the sentimeut of the people eeems to favor it being done and there is no doubt the oouncil will aot 'favorably when the matter comes up. The gasoline lamps at present lighting (?) Main street alone, give poor satisfaction at best. Just now t-sy are all out of commission and it will require a considerable expenditure expendi-ture to set them right besides no small amount for. maintaining the aystem. The power company had offered to eet a good light on eyeify pole along Main street and on every alternate pole along all other streets at a monthly rental of $50. Under the -42Umstanc68 the company now proposes pro-poses a similar eervice for 135, on a contract for one year only, The council had partly concluded to offer that amount to light Main street, and now that every street can be lighted for the same figure there seems to be nothing in the way of coming to an Agreement. Give us ligh. |
