Show fsr 9 1 IV H a ali A patrol 00 r m mm f r 0 cadet ca d ef program A MAO for lacu high H g school C h 00 system ff ash M eldika A 10 Z green river journal ph photo 0 to from left ie to right ekker col ralph captain louise dorothy L blake joe baker and mr lee gledhill three ree volunteers 0 needed to teach two hours monthly civil air patrol col ralph B Otten hiemer utah wing command der and captain louise C otten heuner heimer wing adjutant both of salt lake city were in green river saturday august 13 they met with the officers of the local civil air patrol unit and with mr lee F gledhill principal of the green greer river school to discuss and ample ment plans for a program of aeronautical training in the green river school the course of study includes preflight subjects gro ground und school training and actual orienta tion flights flight si in n C civil I 1 v I 1 I 1 air patrol pa planes an es furnished by the U S air force this carefully planned aviation study program is designed to give youngsters an understanding of the air age and to help those desiring a career in aviation to achieve it the course will be taught two days a week on tuesdays and thursdays said mr gledhill and youngsters signing up as C A P cadets will be given credit towards graduation youths between 15 and 18 years of age are eligible ele gible to join the green river unit of the civil air patrol is sponsoring the cadet training program since preparing yourth for world is one of the important missions of the C A P this meeting was held at the home of ekker after business was concluded mrs ekker and mrs pearl baker served the group with a delicious buffet dinner teachers for the program are sup plied by local civil minded people who volunteer to give about 2 hours a month to teach the subjects which are outlined in manuals sup plied by the USAF CAP authorities three green river men have al ready volunteered to teach the cadets they are ekker terry spivey and joe baker three more volunteers are needed for this program the aid of people who have particular functions in the city such as airport managers machan ics acs and weather bureau workers etc are particularly needed it is felt that aeronautics is an im subject for modern youth since our young people must learn to think and to act in terms of assoc lation with people of all lands since the advent t of the airplane national and cultural frontiers have been abolished our business cal and cultural life depends direct ly upon what is happening in remote parts of the world anyone interested in helping with this program is urged to get in touch with ekker operations or with joe baker commander of the local C CAP A P unit |
