Show the T he public forum dear teen agers I 1 noticed in the july 28 edi tion of the green river journal that 50 of you young people had signed a letter calling attention to the death of recreational facil ties for youth here frankly I 1 had expected y your 0 u r letter to bring at least sev several e r a 1 answers from oldsters and town fathers to my desk but do you know what so far not a single letter has arrived in regard to the situation you brought to light and it was signed by 50 future ci citizens of green kiver river we hope in the second paragraph you said how many kids are on the verge of being bad just because their town doean doesn t care enough I 1 know it looks bad it does seem as though no one cares enough but wait a minute and lets let s look things square in the face as they really are did you ever stop to think how much money it takes for pop and mom morn to keep you in the style that this modern age and day demands how long and how hard has pop had to work to bring in the cash for cars radios shows electric power telephones running water and sewer systems that youve taken for granted 7 and how hard bard and how long has mom aloin had to pinch pennies pennie yes pennies and maybe go without m many n Y things she longs for her s selfa el f and both of them have done it willingly though maybe not uncomplainingly so that YOU could enjoy your youth per haps their savings and dreams have centered on an adequate education for you so that have a CHANCE at success and not have to work so hard and go without phout as much as they have had to do well in view of this perhaps their silence is not due to bisin terest maybe they are arg too tired maybe they are discouraged maybe they are just not used to expressing themselves in print anyway lets let s give them the ben e befit fit of the doubt since in the end the situation is the same you are still without any pros hect of a youth center and ably will be until you jour ourselves selves do something about it do you realize that doing something about it will lift you right out 0 of f the boredom you complain O 0 of f and you mon on t even feel like being bad yes as soon as you 50 signers get interested in yourselves enough to get the ball rolling life in green biver river will become interesting to you and you will feel that the town be longs to you too you get out of anything only what you put into it that old saying is as true today as it ever was if you youngsters will put thought and talk work and mon men ey into green elver river you 11 get it all back and more in the form of of civic interest and pride the fun un of sharing and the feeling of responsibility these exper lences ns will mill add another blow to your boredom and you 11 no longer feel left out most of you have good paying jobs and are well 11 able to organize a ha hard rd pu punching group elect officers officer and start a fund for teen age as e recreation yourselves another true maxim is god helps those who help themselves well you are not child ren any more waiting for things to be served to you on a silver platter or are yova why keep asking for things when you can stand on your own feet in this mattera if you have intelligence and push pugh enough to make a real start toward helping yourselves I 1 predict that it won wont t be long before the townspeople wake up and want to do their share too but the first thing for you 50 signers to do is call a meeting and organize by electing officers then take up a generous dona tion among yourselves and assess yourselves dues each month for the cause why if the 50 of you each donated only 2 00 each you would have immediately and within a month you could have another or more when you get your first 00 in the bag come around to the green river journal for a headline story AND a donation sincerely the editor when carl bobo olson world middleweight champion was a young boy he wanted to be a jockey vaha aha see somebody does care in answer to the letter yourselves respectable regardless re 9 addles 3 of the circumstances there are some that a gathering place or party a arty would be only a place to find ind T a parking date for later or for tomorrow night and granted there may be a urn lim cited few that may be encouraged to keep on the right side now young adults lets hear bear some of your ideas what would you like and what part are you willing
