| Show telegram from senator wallace aenne ienne bereft P tt happy to advise that president eisenhower Elsen hower s mission 66 a ten year program to improve our national parks will be released tomorrow I 1 am pleased that many of my views and recommendations to mi im prove our utah parks and bonu ments are included some of the highlights follow mission 66 becom mends new visitors centers in all of the parks and monuments A ten year highway program is program med at 16 million dollars annually compared with the present 12 5 million annually for a two year per lod iod they would be able to make long range plans and maintain lar ger staffs in all parks and bonu ments for zion national park ex road improvements and ca aping ground facilities A new vis igors center by the virgin river by present office building for zion national monument A study to merge with zion park in keeping with my bill to merge them offer ed tuesday park service generally favorable to merger A new road off U S 91 to La verkin creek in the monument campground at La laversin verkin creek and spur road from there to dead point bryce national park extensive road development pending a studs study being made and a new visitors cen ter As you know I 1 persuaded the park service to se tra tion of bryce and zion which will begin in july if the money is ampro printed cedar breaks road exten and campgrounds forest ser vice being asked to establish camp grounds at duck creek A new visit ors center arches new head quart ers building expanded road develop ment and visitors center capitol reef rainbow and natural bridges new visitors centers and highway development dinosaur proposed flew new roads pending conference in imn washington this month dinosaur superintendent to be here gos A study will be made which I 1 am pushing to further develop and improve its facilities president eisenhower Elsen hower will submit supplemental appropriation this sess ion to begin work I 1 shall support him vigorously as well as the mcrea sed amounts recommended for the parks in utah submitted in the pres ident s budget it is gratifying to see some of our work bear fruit wallace F bennett U S senator |
