Show dr arthur adams to be founders day speaker at U dr arthur S adams washington D C president of the american council on education will be the featured speaker at the university of utah founders day banquet in the union building on march 5 announcement of dr adams ap bearance pe arance came thursday from mar laar vm vin J bertoch member of the TT U alumni board of control and ban chairman one of america americas s most respected educational figures dr adams has had a brilliant professional civic military and literary career in 1945 he won a legion of merit medal for heading up the U S na vy s V 12 officer procurement pro gram he is a graduate of the U S naval academy at annapolis md and the U S submarine school ser ving on active duty from 1918 to 1921 he was recalled as a naval captain from 1941 to 1945 dr adams last speaking engage ment in utah was in 1951 when he addressed the utah conference Con ferance on higher education in cedar city in 1926 he won a master of arts degree in physics from the city of california and the next year his doctor of science degree in phy and metallurgy from the colo rado school of mines mmes golden colo he has taught in colorado at cor nell university where he served as provost and at many other aducat lonal institutions he was named to his present position in 1951 dr adams has served as alder man of golden president of the board of control of the colorado st ate industrial school for boys ch ell airman of the joint advisory panel on reserve officer training corps affairs chairman of the board of visitors of the air university mem her ber of the committee on armed forces education and chairman of the reserve forces policy board he also served on the board of trustees of brookings institution the educational testing service the institute of international education the research corp and teaching films inc dr adams holds membership in the american society of median meehan ical engineering the american As sn for the advancement of science the american of university professors and many other honor ary sc holistic and professional cleties he has been awarded 22 hon degrees since 1944 he is author or coauthor co author of the development of physical thought and fundamentals of Therm odyn amias and has contributed to many professional educational and tech meal publications A native of massachusetts the 58 year old speaker has a son en ell rolled in the cornell university law school and has three daughters his wife died in 1954 mr bertoch also announced the names of founders day committee members including dr adam ben nion chairman U of U alumni boa rd of con control arol dr G homer durham academic vice president of the U as special advisor dr L david dean of the college of phar macy and dr william J burke head of the department of chemistry as faculty members robert E cut ler printed program mrs jewel cutler music dr laverne C bane Gail Gall Plummer and laauna J love directors of the oratorical and essay contest president earl M and suzanne X burbidge representing the student body E lame laine student chairman of the founders day committee and paul cracroft publicity |
