| Show the key hole by the desert rat last week on the wey back from the henry mountain country I 1 drove over by the san rafael river to see how old sure foot my trusty mule and prospect ng partner was farm in this cold weather when I 1 drove up in the jeep he gave me a b big 19 horse laugh but I 1 think he was glad to see me anyway by golly that cave where hes he s staying for the winter is just as warm as a depot stove I 1 believe he has a bet ter place to stay in than some of the places I 1 ve slept in lately this camping out and sleeping in a bed roll gets mighty rough in cold snowy weather and these so called modern cabins am t much better course that is unless you get in some of these classy joints in the larger towns like green river or hanks ville anyway old sure foot and I 1 had a good visit we talked over old times and some of the rough spots we d barely goten out of and even discussed a few plans for come spring and the snows melt and the weather starts warming up when two old desert cronies get together and cogitate over the big times they ve had and the marvels of the desert you can just bet your boots that it wont be long until they 11 R both have that old gleem in their eye and their feet will start to hit the trail ag again am and loo look k for that big strike I 1 got in town this week just in time to take in the big turkey shoot only they were givin away hams and bacons instead of tur keys NN well ell they ve had a tu turkey akey shoot and a ham and bacon shoot I 1 guess the next one will be an egg shoot to go with the bacon you know there was a feller there at that shoot that was really knock in down the birds and I 1 ive ve seen him out on the desert alot too he s that young johnson feller that hauls ore for prospectors who have been luckier than sure foot and me anyway he sure hauled away the hams and bacons he must ve gotten his practice praire chickens out on the desert although I 1 don t think he hes s been around enough to be classed as a desert rat it seems like the kids shoot n kinda stole the show they tell me that the business people in green river paid for the kids to all have a free round of shoot n I 1 thought that was pretty good to do some thing like that for the kids cause it gives alot of em a chance to shoot that otherwise couldn t and it was quite a sight to see them little rascals holdin up a shot gun that was just about as big as they was and when they d shoot each one had a man behind him to catch him if the gun kicked too hard but by golly now those little fellers did some tolerable good there was one gal there that could really handle a gun and she was real pretty too she knocked down five out of five one time now that s mighty good I 1 never did catch what her name was but her husband was that stringy feller that was around jabbering jab berin all the time I 1 think he must ve had to do with the thing he he was right handy with a gun too I 1 sure was glad to see the kids git in their new school building they tell me that basketball floor is as shiny as a s heal in a mud puddle you know one of these times when I 1 some to town I 1 might even spree up a bit and go see one of them games well I 1 guess I 1 better snuff my candle and turn in got to break camp early in the morning and git this in to old curley that newspaper feller adios |
