Show ALASKA AND MICHIGAN IN November, 1916, James Wicker-sham, Wicker-sham, Republican, was duly and lawfully elected delegate in Congress from the territory of Alaska. A certificate cer-tificate of election was issued to Charles A. Sulzer, the Democratic candidate. can-didate. Wlckersham protested the election and diligently pursued his claim to the seat In the house of representatives, repre-sentatives, but, in accordance with the usual Democratic policy of delay, the contest was not determined until January Janu-ary 7, 1919, when the house decided by a vote of 204 to 64 that Wicker-sham Wicker-sham should be given the seat to which he was elected more than two years before. The Congress to which Wickerham was elected will expire March 4, 1919. Out of the two-year period to which a Republican was elected, the position has been held for more than twenty-two months by a Democrat. |
