Show IN GORGEOUS CLOTHES. UTAH never looked more beautiful than she does today and a : drive through the valleys will make even the worst grouch feel that it is worth while to live in the state. Just now the crops of all kind are dressed in their most gorgeous clothes. Over there is a field of wheat just beginning to turn from the: beautiful green to the golden of the mature crop. Yonder is a field of alfalfa presenting the appearance of a magnificent dark green velvet carpet. There a field of rye nodding its tall heads which appear heavy enough to lie down upon and still hold you up. Beyond a field of corn its beautiful green leaves glistening in the sunlight a sight that makes one glad that he lives. Over there is an orchard, the limbs of the trees almost breaking from their load of cherries, apples, peaches and plums. Nearby is a truck patch the crop nearing fruition. And everywhere are roses and crimson rambler and hollyhocks and sunflowers and snap dragon and 'creeping and clinging vines to add to the beauty. And this you see in a trip over the by-places off the main traveled roads. Neat and clean and modern are the farm buildings and on practically all farms is a garage with a modern car while tractors instead of horses stand in field ready to do the work which the animals ani-mals heretofore performed. And overlooking all this are the magnificent mountains which make the Wasatch and Oquirrh ranges whose snow capped peaks always al-ways present a new phase, in whose gorges is scenery the like of which can be seen nowhere else on earth, canyons in which the beautiful beau-tiful in nature is seen at every turn. And this, in a half hour's ride from Salt Lake City, is why we say that the Salt Lake valley is the most beautiful spot on earth. What if the food situation in Germany is serious? All the more reason why we should be striking sledge hammer blows while the iron is hot. Cantigny was Yanked away from the Germans. New York Evening Eve-ning Sun. |
