Show f I 11 1 SALTATORY I I I have bought Goodwin's Weekly because I believe ifegood investment, and am going to try to make it, in a busi- 9 ness way, even more profitable than it has been. Which will biP summer day's outing, either; for the Weekly has shown WM a good balance in the right side of the ledger. M The paper will be, all of the time, devoted to the interests of all the people of Utah. I have been associated with active M men in different parts of the country for a good many years, and do not believe there is a better citizenship anywhere than is M found here in this state. Boosting for Utah is no pretense with me. It is a conviction. I have studied these people for seven M years, and think I know them. I have studied their problems, and find them different only in kind not in degree from the, M problems that, believe me, are to be found in every community under the sun. ' M 1 I have studied their state, and stand amazed at the marv el of its resources. Whoever marked out the boundaries of Utah 1 inclosed within that line all the soils and all the minerals that are useful to man. Whoever came down Emigration Canyon M and planted here the seeds of a state, not only made possible an unparalleled harvest, but made you and me and all of us now M living in Utah heavily responsible to the nation, and to the race. M We have the factors of the greatest commonwealth. If we move forward in wisdom and in unity, the obligation laid upon us will be discharged. For on the foundation laid by the pioneers we may help complete the fair structure that has been so jl well begun. M As Utah is in the making the greatest of states, so Salt Lake is the best of cities. With one exception, its streets arc the handsomest and the best paved to be found in America. And Salt Lake people paid for their paving. They didn't have a H national treasury to draw upon. fl I have some friends, and no enemies; some hopes, and no fears; some ideals, and no prejudices. Goodwin's Weekly will m be fair to Utah; and I have abundant faith that Utah will be fair to the Weekly. fl IThe business will be handled by Goodwin's Weekly Publishing Company. Burl Armstrong will be editor. Into the cor- fl poration I hope to invite a few helpful people. The secondary purpose of the organization w?!l be to interest, to amuse M maybe, now and then, to instruct. But the dominant intention is to bear a hand in the advan. en.ent of every worthy interest jH in Utah; to serve her people to show the good wherever it is, and to make an independent paper earn a living.
