While in a jealous fit, a few-months few-months ago, this same Sam shot a young squaw; was given a hearing hear-ing and released on furnishing bonds. Last Monday he and Quarets W'angan, another brave, drank too much ginger and bitters; got furiously drunk and made targets tar-gets of their brethorn. A horse was shot dead from under one rider. The villagers then turned out and riding round the desperadoes, despera-does, who kept up an incessant fire in front and over their shoulders, shoul-ders, Indian fashion, in a dizzy circle, soon closed in on f?am & Co.; disarmed them, placed them in ropes, and now the two lay here, bound over. Sam's friends were mad and there were fears of a bloody conflict when the oflicers went to remove him. But the removal re-moval was successfully accom- j plished without serious trouble. |
