Show Motor Motions I Wednesday morning, July 10th, eighty or more cars started on the fourth annual touring cavalcade of tho American Automobile association, associa-tion, tho touring cars striving for perfect scores and the possession of the Glidden trophy and the runabouts contending for tho ownership of the Frank B. Hower cup, offered by the chairman chair-man of tho Touring Board, to whom muoh credit 1 due for his conscientious work in planning plan-ning the details of the 1,500-mile run which will have ending in New York City on July 23d. Iu-erost in this great event is greater this year than over, 'as recent modifications of the rules, suggested by tho manufaceurs, will perfect per-fect tho test on the machines, which by this time are wending their ways through the road leas fastnesses of the Alleghanies, the red route of obstacles for motor travel! ? ? Nothing of a direct competitive nature has so far grown out of the recent hill climbing contest, con-test, though the talk of individual achievements cn that occasion has hardly subsided. Tho only possibility of a speed combat is that between the Newhouse and Keith Clarke Runabouts, which will likely be arranged, for a side wager by tho owners and drivers of the two cars, to bo pulled off on the Agricultural Park or Wandamere circular tracks. & & Work on the body of D. C. Jackling's Itouchot-Schnoicer, the chassis of whiuh was imported direct from Paris, is nearly completed and will go to the paint shop for tho finishing during tho coming week. When completed this will undoubtedly be the most powerful car ever soon here, capable of developing speed, if called upon, beyond the limit of safety on local roads-. & & & Reo purchasers during the week wore A. S. Home, Hubbard Investment Company of this city and J. T. Jensen of Eureka. & & Frank P. Libbey, until recently sales manager man-ager of the Consolidated Wagon & Machine Company's auto department, has returned to his first love in tho motor field and will hero- i 1 " after represent tho Olds Motor Works as trav-eling trav-eling 'representative, a position which Mr. Lib-bey Lib-bey occupied prior to his coming to Salt Lake. jH If there was ever a thought in anybody's mind that Tony Jacobson would be content while thero jH was a car in the town of greater repute than his, the delusion will be dispelled with the announce-ment announce-ment that Tony has just placed an order for a Mathoson of some proportions. Tho now ma-chine, ma-chine, which is to be shipped at once, is of GO horse power, seven passenger model, costing $7,600, and is said to be among the speediest of 1008 cars, according to factory tests. The last thing F. ID. McGurrin did before fl leaving for tho coast was to order a four-cylin-dor Autocar for immediate delivery. s & A. F. Savage, of the White-Savage Company, jH has returned from the East, where he has spent several weeks in rounding up additions to the firm's lines for 1908. Tho result of the trip, as will be seen from the new agoncies signed, will contribute not a little to the representation of prominent manufacturers already here. Be-sides Be-sides the Winton and Cadillac, Mr. Savage has jH signed the "Mighty Matheson," Royal Tourist, jH Stearns and two-cylinder Northern, new models of which will bo delivered in August or Septem-ber Septem-ber of this year. A carloard consisting of three Cadillac tour-ing tour-ing cars is reported on tho road. The new cars will go to S. V. Derrah, S. C. Schrill and tho third to be held as a stock car. |
