The message passes from the suhscrlber's lips to the telephone company's building at V jj -H Salt Lake and thence northward through Utah and eastern Idaho, crossing miles and miles of prairie before it mounts to Butte. v; l H Passing through the great mining camp, part of which is shown in the fourth view, the message climbs two mountain ranges f" Tli fl before it drops to the Yellowstone vnlley to reach the Billings subscriber through the company's building and lines at Billings. '. if Although the picture does not show all the variations in topography, it gives a good general idea of the different classes I jH of country over which the message flashen in the instant required to bear the Salt Laker's words more than GOO miles to the f 'U fl oar of his correspondent at Billings. Under the most favorable conditions, a letter from Salt Lake to Billings requires about ' fl thirty-six hours for delivery and the same period of time to receive an answer.
