Show 1 1 i Motor Motions I At last the much-talked-of hill-climbing content con-tent has taken definite form, and unless the present pres-ent indications fail, the event will be pulled off one week from today. On Wednesday last a party of enthusiasts met at the Botterill garage, on Third South, when a committee was appointed to formulate rules and decide upon the schedulo of events. At a meeting of the committee on Thursday morning the following list of events was decided upon: 1. For cars costing $1,000 or under. 2. Stripped touring cars and runabouts cost ing $1,500 or loss. 3. Touring cars equipped, costing $1,500 or less. 4. Stripped touring cars and runabouts costing cost-ing $3,000 or less. 5. Touring cars equipped, costing $3,000 or less-. 6. Stripped touring cars and runabouts, costing cost-ing $5,000 or less. 7. Touring cars equipped, costing $5,000 or less. 8. Grand free-for-all, for the $1,000 Newhouso cup. The course chosen for the contest will bo from Eighth East on South Temple to the street car crossing at the entrance of Fort Douglas, which is an ideal path for contests of this nature, and will give every car a perfect test. The Autocar, Winner of Philadelphia Twenty-four-hour Race. events will start at 2:30 p. m. next Saturday afternoon. A number of car owners have already signified their intention of entering, and the contest should be the means of starting a series of motor sports during the summer. The- committee com-mittee in charge of the affair will hold another meeting at the Commercial club next Monday evening, at which time all arrangements will be a. made, and officials of the day appointed. & & & This week has accorded the arrival of two of the moat powerful roadsters over soon in the ! Injtermountain states. One is D. O. Jaokling's forty-flve-horsepower "Rochet - Schneider," a i French car with a very high reput n. The j other is F, G. Jenny's forty-flve-horsepower "Peerless," which Is also a roadster of the very highest order. The i urchase by these gentlemen of such high-grade cars again proves that the real live enthusiast is really never satisfied till ho gets to the top of the list. N Jenny's car was pressed into immediate service, and it has daily been annihilating the distance between the city and Smelter Town. & & & The Elks' automobile parade of Wednesday night was a revelation to a great many people. Thos. Kearns' Pierce Arrow as it Appeared in Elks' Parade. There was a number of cars brought out for the occasion which goes to show how rapidly the motor colony of Salt Lake is increasing. Bo-sides Bo-sides a representative showing of cars now owned by Salt Lakers, some of the decorations were gorgeous accomplishments' of the decorative geniuses. Some were simply but artistically draped with the purple and white emblematic colors of the "royal good fellows," while others were lavishly bedecked with flags and floral embellishments. em-bellishments. To commend all that were attractive attract-ive would bo to enumerate practically all that were in the line. |
