Show I COL. HENSIIAW. :S The death of Col. Joe Henshaw comes as a ;H great sorrow to thousands, as a personal be- ,H reavement to all of us who knew him as he j j ' , j Wn really was, and an added pang to the sorrow is I ! mi the thought that he lived and died and the great !!'' iB world never knew the depth, the tenderness, the B ! IB great-heartedness, the loyalty and generosity of B ' ' ' i ' I '! mm his nature Measured by any rule he was a ster- H Ut I !! BK ling man. Of a naturally happy ncture he wanted B rl!l 91 every other man and woman and child in the mmWt '-W '' IB world to be happy. Multifold were his kindly i1' BE acts' PerPetual bis gracious ways, devotion to H , m ' I i Be duty was llis relgion, and while as a trust in the B iii ' interest of others he could be rigid as marble, B i lUiXBI when the stress came to enforce bis own rights he Bj;M: , ff Bl was but a baby in resolution. The best of his jB !1B was Passe n Colorado and Utah. In the B 1 1 1 ' IB former state his name is a household word, and BR I ' lB 's everywhere there held as a synonym of great HB -i' f '21 hearted trustworthiness here in Utah the circle BBt;cj ; Ij-wj of his acquaintances was more limited, but whei:e BB!' 'fflfl known he was always held as one of the truest, kindliest of men. For two years past he has been carrying a double burden, for himself and another, an-other, and with his old enemy, rheumatism, encroaching en-croaching more and more upon his vital powers, at last there was no more strength of fibre to build upon, and now the hard struggle has ended. If a life of toil and faithfulness to duty, if high and generous impulses; if unswerving rectitude rec-titude and integrity, at death spring up anew in flowers, his grave will be filled with them; if unchanging un-changing devotion to the right as God gives us to see the right, is what brings everlasting peace in the end, the pillow on his narrow couch will be soft as down. Profound is the sympathy for his stricken wife, deep is the sorrow of the multitude who while he was on earth held him as their friend. |
