Show TWO GREAT SOULS. I In expression the faces of John Paul Jones and H Alexander Hamilton were much alike. The same I invincible pluck, the same tireless energy, the same pride, the same flashing intellect that reached conclusions con-clusions by instinct rather than through any slow course of reasoning; the same scorn of souls that are untrue; the same sincerity; indeed they were a royal pair. One born in poverty in little Scotland, the other born almost in shame on the little island of Nevis in the West Indias, but out of the squallor and shame one coming to command com-mand on land, the other on the sea, and both to perlorm miracles. Looking back it is impossible to estimate the services they performed. One gave direction to our government, the other set the pace for our navy, and' both were potential factors in our country's history. Their mighty services were crowded into a narrow space. Jones wore out his life at 45; Hamilton was killed at 47. i |
