Show BUENA VISTrA A GREAT TRACK. i r A couple of hundred people have visited the new Buena Vista track across the river during the week, taken a walk around on foot, made a general inspection and noted the progress of Improvements. The wonderful preservation of the track itself has caused the most comment, and when the work on it is completed within the next fortnight, this city will have as fine a mile track as there is in the United States. Those who originally laid out the course cer tainly knew their business, and the best racing rac-ing ever seen hero may be looked for when the babies trot out of the paddock on September Septem-ber 18th The soil is naturally springy, the turns are wide and well banked and the stretch Is something to delight the eye of the man who knows whai a real race track is. There isn't a jockey on earth who won't take ten times the chances on a track like Buena Vista that he would on a half mile track, and there isn't a horse with a streak of yellow in him that won't quit when he gets his x-ray on that stretch. So there won't be much excuse for the best horse not winning in any race. The grand stand and the station on the Salt Lake road will be completed within the next two weeks, and a force of men will grade the auto road from the Jordan bridge to' the track. The fences and stables are going up rapidly, and there will be accommodations for at least four hundred horses. A number are already at home to their friends just north of the grand stand. Some people have an idea that the track is quite a distance from the city, but it is not, and may be reached in a very few minutes by the Second South street road. |
