Show Hardly Practical PROFESSOR WILHELM OATWALD of Leip-sic Leip-sic University, a gentleman who holds honorary hon-orary degrees from most of the great Universities Uni-versities of the world, has taken up the idea that the commerce and good relations of the nations would be wonderfully facilitated if a common coinage among the nations could be agreed upon. He will give his views before the Manufacturers association in Berlin in October and the nations are to be invited to send delegates to join in the discussion. The idea is good, but we suspect It will be declared de-clared impracticable. Would Great Britain gire up her shield and unicorn? Would the United States surrender her eagle and her goddess? The impression on coins denote sovereignty, and it seems as though the change would be like proposing pro-posing that all nations train under a common flag. |
