Show interesting LETTER ELDER JESSE IV HOOPES JR JK editor news 55 twenty four today today I 1 left brigham city tor for the eastern states mission during that time I 1 have bave surely been blessed ot of the lord arid and have enjoyed my work exceedingly Y most ot of my time has been spent in syracuse where I 1 have made many friends and I 1 hope that I 1 have been successful successful in impressing them with the importance ot of the gospel ot at jesus christ as we belleve believe it syra syracuse cuse seems almost like home to me noy almost but not quite alter after all there Is no place like home and I 1 shall be happy to meet and associate 1 with my old i friends again when I 1 am released just when this will be I 1 cannot say but probably this summer during the summer months we contine confine our efforts chiefly to the rural I 1 districts holboll holding ng meetings in the small towns and villages and visiting the several branches ot of the church in our Conre conference rendle during the N week eek end my companion and I 1 have been and are now on a tour of our conference during the past ten days we ve have traveled about twelve hundred miles our means of transportation we ve term motoring but consists oj of getting out on the highway and hailing passing motorists for a ride from the distance we have covered in the short time you can readily see we have had good success we were in binghamton N Y for a day this week looking up some people and while there met sister lillian wight she is is feeling well and enjoying her work and asks to be remembered to her many friends at home I 1 visited the large shoe factory of endicott Endl cott johnson in johnson city it is a most wonderful institution just at present they are not working to capacity but when the are they employ about people and turn out about pair of shoes each day the employees are well satisfied with their employers and working conditions unions and labor troubles are unknown there the nien men and women work by piecework piece work and some of oc the girls earn 40 per week and the men as much or more the company maintain beautiful parks and recreation grounds the best talent is brought there tor for the entertainment of 0 the people the company also builds homes and sell them to the employees at actual cost and on small monthly payments which equal or ordinary III rent the only requirement T is that the party buying the home must have children people with no children cannot own these company homes hospitals are maintained tor for the employees and their families at ai a cost of 60 cents per week to the work men each baby born in these hos has 1 petals receives a bank account started at 1000 from the president mr john son ran the company also have retail stores where the general public can i buy groceries etc at cost prices many say the company only does this for advertising purposes but at any rate it Is a good thing for the employ ees and their families I 1 have enjoyed reading your paper and look forward I 1 to its arrival accept my thanks tor for the same and with all good wishes to you and the people ot of I 1 ant am sincerely jesse W hoopes jr |
