Show Referring to the dissatisfaction in the Eastern JF states over Senator Beveridge's course in tho $ H hearings of the Investigation Committee on the 1 1 Smoot case; it must not be forgotten that it is I H the candid conviction of Senator Beveridge that I ' at some future time the people of the United " , States will rise to a full estimation of what ho ' is, that when they do there will bo an irresisti- $ jH ble demand that he shall be President of the f H United States and when that time comes he will r H desire that, when the roll of States shall be called, H the response will be unanimous, not even ex- H repting Utah. Hence he may now be unconscious- tM ly biased in his own favor. Appropos of this, a H note was received in this city a few days ago from H a gentleman who seems to have watched the in- 'H vestigation thus far With a gocd deal of interest, HH which contained these words: "Senators Bever- k H idge, Foraker and Dillingham seem to mo to be ' H trying to find some excuse for believing that Sen- H ator Smoot's title to his seat is without a flaw." t H |
