Show In the old days the bodies of murderers in H England were buried at cross-roads and nosmark H was made to save their names from swift oblivion. It almost looks as though the custom would have H To be revived in this country to give ruffians no- H tice that if they committed murder, there would H be no sensational displays; that they would be killed without any dramatic accompaniments and H buried where no one could mark their graves. That would stop one order of murderers for de- H pravod men sometimes work themselves up to a H point whore they would be willing to die if by do- H H ing so they could create a big sensation. But the H record of crime these days is something terrible. m We are not sure that it would not be better if the B accounts of trials were suppressed. They fill the M daily papers; they are read by criminals, and M give to such readers, hints of where the criml- H nals make fatal mistakes and teach them to bet- M ter cover the tracks of their crimes. It is said H a new continent has been discovered encircling B the South Pole. Better make it a penal colony M and banish desperate criminals there. |
