Show The clashings between the officers of, the anthracite anthra-cite coal companies and the head of the unions, in the presence of the President, has done more to crystalize public opinion in favor of Government proprietorship for all great properties on which the people are directly dependent, like railroad property, and coal properties on which millions of people rely for fuel; than, years of political agitation agi-tation could have done. Many men are already clamoring for legislation in that direction. The thought of what direction the Government itself will take when those changes come about, and men look to the Government to have their coal delivered to them as they now look to it for letters, is not much thought of, or if it is, it is dismissed with the remark that "anything would be better than to have the poor suffer because of the quarrels between employers and employees." |
