Show Joseph H. Choate, who Is soon to be succeeded by Whitelaw Reld as minister to the Court of St James, has established a reputation in England for always saying the right thing at the right time This facility was demonstrated at a London banquet, ban-quet, where, as is more often the case over there than here, the gallery of the hall was filled with women. Mr. Choate arose to make his first speech as ambassador. Looking about him, or rather above him, he began with: "Now I know wnat the Scripture phrase means when it is written: 'Thou madest man a little lower than the angels.' " |
