Show For Mormon and Gentile. A FEW REASONS WHY CANDIDATE W. J. LYNCH SHOULD BE DEFEATED. He is essentially an experiment; he has shown ' no executive capacity and has given evidence of no knowledge of municipal questions. Until within the last day or two, when party politics demanded it, he has refused to commit himself upon the water question, and is as meagerly informed in-formed upon that problem as Mayor Morris was two years ago and still is. His candidacy is solely in the interest of Apostle Reed Smoot, and he is running solely at the instigation of Smoot and his lieutenants, Callister and Anderson. If elected, he would be controlled by that coterie just as completely as was Councilman Cottrell and the other seven Mormon immacu-- lates during the last Thompson administration. His election means the strengthening of the already formidable and obnoxious Smoot machine. ma-chine. He is the henchman of the band of political agitators who are responsible for the turmoil which, for the past several years, has retarded the growth of this city. He is the candidate of the crowd which treacherously defeated the regular Republican nominee for mayor two years ago. He is the choice of the political faction which, through apostolic influence, defeated the wishes of the people by nominating the obscure John C. Cutler for the governorship one year ago. If elected, he would be controlled by this same coterie, which attempted, with more than partial success, to politicalize the state institution at Provo, the Agricultural College, and other charitable charit-able and educational institutions of the state, and make them a part of the Smoot political machine. If elected, he would not make an appointment not dictated by the ecclesiastical machine of which the Provo apostle is the manipulator. He is a brother-in-law of Governor Cutler. He represents the ecclesiastical meddlers, whose unfair, un-American and pledge-breaking political trickery led to the formation of a Gentile party. He is the candidate of the selfsame crowd which created all the friction in the last Thompson Thomp-son administration, and which blocked all the mayor's efforts on behalf of the city's progress. |
