It has been V ' rumored for some time, but neither the girl nor 1" ,1 'I the fellow would admit it until the past weelc. 1 1 , They have both pledged me to secrecy, but why J I M withold the names for they have told enough in- H ! 1 timate friends to make the secret no secret. It H will be a front page story for the dailies, and most Bj v, interesting to society in general.' H dp ! Their closest friends are congratulating them H 1 1 If already, and the rest of you may do the same very Mi soon- H ' Hon. A. W. McCune will return from Peru in H a few days, and upon his return to South Amer- jK 4 r I j i ica will be accompanied by Mrs. McCune and B jj ( l! Mrs. A. W. McCune, Jr. And if he intends to re- Hj , ' j main here for some time before returning, Mrs. A. iHj S j1 W., Jr., will give a large dancing party in the B ' i ( mansion on Mt. Nebo. There has never been a H ,' dance in the beautiful ball room- of this home, H, ' ! ! , which is so ideal for entertaining, and more's the H j Pity. H '' I Several ladies and gentlemen were the guests H of Mrs. McCune on Tuesday -arternoon, and wore H shown the palatial mansion from cellar to roof. H Those who have not had an opportunity to view H the artistic interior effects have missed a treat. H J H v Mr. Newhouse will entertain at a large danc- H ( ing party at the Country Club on Wednesday H evening for Miss Alice Goodwin. From present Bi indications, it will be the largest evening affair m t1 y I of the coming weelc. K U V)i 'I , "The Call of the Wild," a Pullman, and some "'.Pj ji'"? stout ponies drew Clem Schramm up Ogden can- H yon last Sunday. He was the pilot for nine con- V genial spirits, and the ride to the "Oaks," that Hl haven of chicken and fish, and other things be- R sides, was personally conducted by a Mr. Hillarity. B The Billy Cunninghams, those ideal chaperons, B i were along to preserve order, and the trip was B ' most delightful. H I hear that Mr. Schramm will give a series of B fifteen parties during the summer, and when he H j invites you, go it's worth while. B B Archie Milner entertained a party of friends B t on Sunday by taking them to Saltair and then B s over to the island on his yacht Pierpont. A good B , j ! cook, a good chaperone and a jolly bunch of girls IR ' n and fellows went along. The day was a beauty Hf i i for just such an outing, and the stunt was original Hb ' i -''i1 for this locality, to say the least. H & & B The cherries were ripe, and everyone cheered HH up at Red Butte Hollow last evening where Jas- BB , , mine and Le Grande Young entertained a number H ' i i, of friends in honor of Miss Inez Trent. The af-HH af-HH ' ;4l fair was delightfully informal. flB p '' & & & BB Is Mrs" Davld Keltn w111 entertain at an elab- HB '' orate tea at her home on Brigham street next HJH'I If Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Keith and Mr. and Mrs. Reber will provide excitement on the evening of the Fourth for a large number of their friends. They have taken the Walker home on South Main street, and have selected Independence day for a house warming, all of which shows the proper spirit. Jv i fcv Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bldredge were guests of honor at a beautiful dancing party given by Miss Mary Bldredge on Thursday evening. Guy is a New Yorker now, but with his wife is spending a few weeks here seeing old triends, and escaping escap-ing Eastern weather. & & & Mutual friends are anxiously awaiting the answer an-swer of a young man who was proposed to in Ogden Og-den canyon on Sunday last, by one of the most charming girls in the Smart Set. All agree that the two ar admirably suited to one another for several reasons. He is a hustler, but extravagant, and she has money and a number of sensible ideas that might hold him in check. Besides they have both been disappointed in love, and their future could be one long rosy consolation party. If you see her wearing a beautiful new silk gown in a week or two you may know that he has refused, for the purchase of such a frock is the penalty for a refusal in leap year. But confidentially, he tells me that he wont have to pay the penalty. Another October wedding. t jt These summer evening dinners where a man can go in wild west fashion, without bundling up In evening clothes are the real thing. Mrs. Cunningham gave one of these comfortable comforta-ble affairs on Tuesday evening, and Mr. Newhouse has given his dinners of the past week out on the veranda. ; & c Wednesday is to be strenuous, indeed. The Keith reception in the afternoon will be followed by three or four large dinners, and the Newhouse dance at the Country Club will close the festivi-tiel festivi-tiel & t & Viola Pratt Gillette has arrived in the city for a visit of a few days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Milando Pratt, after an absence of three years, during which time she has made herself famous on the operatic stage. It is doubtful if any city the size of this can boast of so many men and women who have gone to the top in stageland, and the visit of this accomplished woman wo-man is a most welcome one. & & The hostesses at the Country Club today will bo Mrs. H. D. Niles, Mrs. T. G. Grlffln, and Miss McGrath. w w i& Miss Billings was guest of honor on Monday evening at a delightful lawn party given by Eveline Eve-line Thomas. The game of 500 for part of the 400 was the entertainment en-tertainment provided for Thursday afternoon by Mrs George Y. Wallace. The World's Fajr colors col-ors were used in decorating and cards Of the exposition ex-position were souvenirs. & The coaching party given by the Misses Cos-griff Cos-griff on Thursday evening followed by asupper at the Country Club was enjoyed by about twenty twen-ty of their friends. ? Jt 8 - The opening of the new Independent Telephone Tele-phone exchange was a very brilliant event, Society So-ciety was out in full blast, and the scenes about the new building were extremely attractive. . |
