A surprise of the week was the marriage of Miss Virginia Breeden, daughter of the Attorney-General, Attorney-General, and liieut. Berry, U. S. A., which took place in Los Angeles on Friday. The engagement had been announced, but the marriage was not to take place till spring. The bride is a charming girl and a social favorite here and in Ogden, and Lieut. Berry is one of the best liked officers of Douglas. Invitations to the wedding of Miss Florence Small and Mr. Julius B. Warnecke have been received re-ceived by the many friends of Miss Small in this city. The wedding will take place in Leadville, Colo., on Thursday evening, November 20th. One of the pretty affairs of the week was the card party given on Monday afternoon by the Misses Hall for Miss Porter. The decorations were in yellow and white chrysanthemums, and shaded lights being used most effectively. Mrs. M. F. Pfoutz entertains at luncheon next Wednesday. Mrs. Hoyt Sherman has gone East for an extended ex-tended visit. The first annual exhibit of the Press Artists' league Thanksgiving week will be a society affair. A number of the most prominent ladies in the city will be patronesses. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Odell have returned. Miss McMillan gave an elaborate luncheon yesterday yes-terday afternoon in honor of Miss Porter. The Misses Kinney entertained at a charming dinner on Thursday in honor of Miss Porter. Mrs. Charles G. Plummer has returned from Europe. Mrs. Edwin F. Holmes will be at home Fridays till January 1st. There will be a putting contest at the Country club today. Table d'Hote dinner at 6:30. The bachelors are hosts. Lieut. White gave a dancing- party at the post last evening in honor of Miss Porter. Mrs. Windsor V. Rice gives a card party at the Knutsford on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. W. W. Rivers entertained informally on Monday afternoon for the Woman's Republican club. Mrs. William McKellar has returned from California. Cali-fornia. Miss Geddes left on Monday for the East to spend the winter. Col. Donnellan has returned from California. Mrs. C. H.
