Show HON JAMES SHARP. B The late Hon. James Sharp possessed a steady H and careful mind. He was one of the men that H men speak of as "a safe man." In the varied B public offices that he held, as well as in the im- B por'tant private responsible stations assigned to B him he was always faithful, always exact in his -B accountings. No one ever doubted his perfect H integrity, and if his mind was sometimes slow MM to act the conclusions reached were those of an B honest man, whose sense of duty was perhaps his jH most marked attribute. His mind moved slowly B even in an emergency, as was seen when his mis- H guided people sought to use the standard of the B United States as a symbol of their sorrow, that B they could not without interference, be a law H unto themselves on United States soil. He was H intense almost to fanaticism in his religious be- JH liefs, so much so that what would seem an im- tH pression to the ordinary man, he believed was H to him a revelation. But he meant to be right, M and meant to be just. He performed his duty M as God gave him to see it. In his home the grief H at his taking off is pitiable to see, and it would M be a cold heart that would not go out in symp- H athy to the stricken ones there. M |
