Show ELDER AND SHEPARD TO SEPARATE. The firm of Elder & Shepard, after several years of successful publishing, is about to dls- solve partnership. Publishers, it appears, are I like doctors in their inability to. agree on all points, tor it is a proverb In New York houses that the middlemen who are to remain happily mated for more than the space of a year are indeed blessed ot heaven. Paul Elder and Morgan Shepard Shep-ard have remained together as long as could be expected in their business, and their separation js merely a matter of diverging policies. Shepard, I am told, ran the curio and art end of the business, busi-ness, while Elder was more purely a man cf books. Shepard was the "outside man" and Elder the "Inside man," and working thus they made a strong team. During the course of their career they have worn the mantle which was handed down by Doxey, who produced The Lark and other quaint and original creations. Paul Elder, I believe, be-lieve, was In the employ of Doxey before he went into business for himself, and Morgan Shepard was connected with one of the local banks. I am told that the business will continue undeV the firm name of D. P. Elder. The above from San Francisco Town Talk will be of great interest to all loveis of art and literature litera-ture who have admired the work of these clover men, and the products of their establishment. But It Is good to know that in the hands of Mr. Elder, there will be no cessation of the quaintly beautiful beau-tiful books and leaflets. |
