Mr. Frohman has conceived the idea of having the authors of successful plays make fun of their own work by writing "skits" on them. He has arranged with Clyde Fitch and William Gillette to write burlesques of their plays, and he hopes to induce J. M. Barrie and ether English and American playwrights to do the same stunt. Mr. Frohman says that the most prominent playwrights are clever at this flippant sort of writing, and often pen funny burlesques of their own work, but Gillette well, we'll have to wait and see, that's all. Just the moment a play makes a hit in New York Mr. Frohman will have the author's "skit" ready to put on, and the burlesque will iven as a curtain-raiser at Daly's theater frohman is to take Daly's theater next season in conjunction with George Edwards, and will produce English musical comedies come-dies there. t w From a Missouri correspondent is learned the truth in regard to a small traveling menagerie, consisting of an elephant, two tigers, two leopards, leop-ards, a hyena, and a cockatoo. While passing through a flooded district the whole of the food supply and the stabling accommodation was lost in swollen rher. There was no nelp for it, for a few days, at least, the pioprietor saw that he would have to house his scanty collection of animals ani-mals and his negro attendant in the stables of the village inn. On his departure the landlord presented pre-sented his bill: To eatin' 1 Elifant with grass for 3 days..$ 7.50 To eatin' 2 Tigers with raw meat 5.00 To eatin' 2 Spotted Animals 4.50 io eatin' that thing like a dorg that yells "murder" 2.50 To eatin' that funny bird with a big nose on .25 To eatin' and drinking yerself ana that ole black man that never washes 5.00 ..$24.75 Please settle, for I've had enuf of you all. |
