Show Sanford Fire Update On Tuesday, the Dixie National Forest provided the following update on the Sanford Fire. Fire Size: 72,100 acres Location: 1 1 miles northeast of Panguitch, Utah, Dixie National Forest Percent Contained: 80 Expected Containment Date: Unknown Personnel: 644 Current Situation: Hand crews continued to con struct fire line on the north and east flanks and improved line on the north flank. Resources working on the fire include 21 crews, seven helicopters, five engines, 197 overhead personnel, person-nel, four water tenders and 2 camp crews. Five additional crews came in from Florida and Tennessee yesterday June 34. Helicopter bucket drops throughout the day assisted (See UPDATE on page 7A) ; Update -; From Front Page -1 these efforts. Also assigned to 2 the fire are two single engine air " tankers for use in the fire sup- -; pression efforts. Fire behavior 1 was moderate yesterday with ; reduced winds, higher tempera-; tempera-; - tures, and lower relative humid-; humid-; ity. The fire suppression activi--2 ties remain an interagency - 2 effort, with personnel from -" seven federal agencies and state - ; and private agencies. "Even . - though there is no expected con- 2 - tainment date yet, we are mak-; mak-; - ing good progress in fire sup-2 sup-2 pression," said Incident - 2 Commander Tom Suwyn. "The 2 fire suppression efforts are being 2 conducted in extremely rough -2 terrain. Firefighter and public 2- safety is our main concern." 2- Smoke levels have decreased 2 this past week as' a result of 2 active- fire suppression efforts. ;2 Levels at the smoke particulate -22 monitoring stations indicated 2 that air quality levels from June 2 19-24 were continuously in the ; 0-50 range, which is the classi- 2' fied as good. 2'-- Area Closures and Road 2.- Restrictions: Within the fire area: All motorized vehicles, horse and foot travel is prohibit- - .2 ed in the Sanford Fire area until - 2 further notice. Road closures include: On - 2 the western edge of the fire, the road is closed at the Forest 2 boundary preventing entrance 2 -- into the right and left forks of 2- Sanford Creek and Smith 2- Canyon. ;2 The Mount Dutton and 2 Cottonwood Creek Loop Road (Forest Road 125) is closed at -2 the Forest boundary in 2 Cottonwood Creek and at the 2 Jones Corral Junction. 2 Roads which remain open: 22- Forest Road 125 from Antimony 2 to Jones Corral junction. Forest Road 126 north from ;22 Jones Corral junction to Jones Z Corral and the Mount Dutton ;22 table. 22 On the southern edge of the -2: fire,, the Tom Best Spring Road -22 and northward along the Casto 22 Canyon and Losee Canyon 2 Loop. |
