Show Longtime J udge Louis G. Tervort Is Retiring June 30 Judge Louis G. Tervort is retiring re-tiring from the 6th District Juvenile Court bench on June 30. He was appointed by Gov. Scott Matheson on July 1, 1978 as judge of the 10th District Circuit Court for Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, Wayne , Garfield and Kane Counties. He held that judgeship for eight years. He was appointed Juvenile Court Judge in the 6th District on Oct. 1, 1986 by Gov. Norman Ban-gerter. Ban-gerter. In July 1991, Judge Tervort began hearing all domestic matters in the 6th District Courts in addition to his Juvenile Court responsibilities. He continues to hear both juvenile and domestic matters in the district and has become in effect Utah's first and only "to date" family court judge. Judge Tervort was born in Spring Lake, Utah County. He is a graduate of Payson High School and earned an associate degree in science at Snow College in 21958. In 1960, he attended Brigham Young University and then the University Uni-versity of Utah from 1960 to 1963. From 1963 to 1966, he completed law school, receiving his juris doctorate in 1996. He was admitted to the Utah State Bar in October 1966 and continues con-tinues that membership. For 12 years, he practiced law, both civil and criminal, in South Central Utah. He was named in Outstanding Young Men of America in 1972 and in 1977 was listed in Who's Who in the American West. Judge Tervort is a former chair of the Board of Juvenle Court Judges and is presently a member of the Family Court Task Force. The judge is a resident of Ephraim, Sanpete County. He and his wife Carole are the parents of four children and have 13 grandchildren. grand-children. An open house honoring him will be held July 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Noyes Building, Snow College Campus, 150 East College Ave., in Ephraim. A program is set for 6:30 p.m. All friends and associates are invited to attend. |
