Show PMJGUI7GU UGUS By Earl Roe 676-2376 When I agreed to try to take Mamie Talbot's place writing this column, I felt that I would not have time to get out or call to gather all of the news items that Mamie reported each week. This week tells me that I was right. There has not been a single sin-gle newsworthy item reported to me. So think of this week as a reminiscing Panguitch Patter. For those of you who have not traveled Highway 12 recently, recent-ly, you have missed the activity on the new bridge that is the second replacement of the old "steel bridge" that was a landmark land-mark when I was young. The rainbow-shaped arch of steel was much more scenic than the flat spans that have replaced it. The required seven-mile hike in Scouting was always out to the steel bridge. Van Myers operated operat-ed a service station just off the highway south and to the right of the bridge. A common bike ride then was out to the steel bridge and back again. Rubber inner tubes (real rubber) were launched into the river for a float downstream. Good fishing was often described as above (south) of the steel bridge or below (north) of the steel bridge. In many ways, this bridge was an important marker during its existence. We are feeling our first bit of real winter weather this Thursday. I haven't seen any frost yet, however, Art Cooper said his windshields were frosted frost-ed over Monday morning. We can start to look for snow any time now, especially in the mountains where some lucky hunters are chasing elk. They might not like the cold, but it will help keep the flies down. Reports are that fishing is still good at Otter Creek Reservoir and the fish are fat and taste great. Evalyn and I are leaving in the morning on a trip to Dayton, Ohio, for a Korean War Bomb Group reunion. So you may not find Panguitch News in the paper for one week. "Road was slippery Curve was sharp White Robe, Halo Wings and Harp." Burma Shave. Editor 's Note: We appreciate the hard work that our community commu-nity columnists do to report your news, however, it is not their responsibility to call you. If you want your news in, you should get it to them by their deadlines by email, by telephone or in writing. |
