Classic trucks and dragsters PANGUITCH - Panguitch City, Garfield County and the Triple C Arena manager, Joe Decker have received kudos throughout the county this week for the recent National Mud Bog & Monster Showdown, held last Saturday evening. Reports are of some 900 attendees at the first of it's kind event. Numbers not only presentable, pre-sentable, but exciting to event planners. And folks traveled from Kanab, Cedar City, Escalante, Richfield and St. George to take in the evening. The performances of some ten fuel-injected mud bog drag- looked pretty sharp as they lined up to take the flag before timed runs down this mud bog in the center end of the track, but the highlight of the show was the robot clash, the finale of the evening. Mud BogMonster Showdown Successful In Pangfuitch sters, six modified-class trucks and five monster trucks went off without a hitch. Standing by to render aide were Panguitch City volunteer fire fighters, an ambulance ambu-lance with attending EMT's, search and rescue members and local law enforcement. But thankfully, the evening was smooth (sailing) or possibly mudding and racing. . There were eight local participants partic-ipants in the stock class mud bog and Josh Hughes of Panguitch won third place in time trials. At the conclusion of all the racing, jumping and crushing a monster truck and" tank both transformed into robots. Subsequently shooting out fire, almost like a gattling gun effect, but achieved using bottle rockets. These two giants did battle, after which families and kids were allowed onto the dirt track surface to examine the monster vehicles up close and personal and drivers signed autographs and were very personable. per-sonable. In the future, Decker promises promis-es greater lead time will be given for locals to sign up and compete and possibly ATV mud bogs will be added to the mix. All in all it was a tremendous family event and thank yous across the board for plenty of "ear plugs" on hand. A few have voiced concern over the overall cost of the event to procure the trucks and advertize, adver-tize, but will reserve their judgment judg-ment until the final numbers are reported in future Panguitch City Council meetings. |
