Show Forest Service To Hold Community Workshop For Forest Planning Community members are invited to join Forest Service employees in Panguitch on Saturday, June 28, to identify die desired condition of nearby Dixie National Forest areas, says Dixie Forest Supervisor Bob Russell. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in die Panguitch Social Hall, 50 E. Center. A box lunch will be available for $6 per person from Cowboy" s Smokehouse, or participants par-ticipants can have lunch on their own. Forest Service staff will be available to talk with participants partici-pants before and after die meeting, meet-ing, and during die lunch. Russell says die meeting is part of die process of revising die Dixie and Fishlake Forest Plans. "We are working closely with community members and other interested participants in revising the plans," he says. "The purpose of the current round of 10 community workshops, work-shops, of which Panguitch is die ninth, is to describe desired conditions, con-ditions, opportunities and benefits bene-fits for geographic areas." The Forest Service defines a geographic geo-graphic area as a part of a national forest that has a distinct character (a 'sense of place' that is commonly recognized by forest for-est users) and can be managed as a unit. Geographic areas to be discussed dis-cussed in the Panguitch workshop work-shop are Bear Valley, Panguitch Lake, Red Canyon, Sevier Plateau, and Paunsagunt. (Some geographic areas discussed during dur-ing die Panguitch workshop last summer have been combined based on comments from the public and ranger district staff.) "We'll be asking participants whedier current management direction in the Dixie Forest Plan is still appropriate. In other words, do die current desired conditions paint a picture of how we want tiiese geograpliic areas to look? Do they capture the experiences and benefits people want to have? Do diey describe how we want tiiese landscapes to function? Answering Ans-wering tiiese questions provides a starting point for identifying the changes we need to make to the current forest plan," Russell says. People who are interested in attending the workshop can obtain a package of pre -work for the meeting by calling the Powell Ranger District at 676-9300. 676-9300.
