Show Holidays Keep High School Teams Playing From County To Logan By John Yardley There were a number of ball games played by county teams during the holidays, ranging from Garfield County to Logan. There were 1A non-league games and a big Panguitch Invitational Tournament. Tourna-ment. Bryce Valley picked up a nice win against St. Joseph's 50-47, behind the one-two punch of Lucas Ramsay (19 points, six assists) and Cole Twitchell, (13 points and 10 rebounds). Green River outdueled Panguitch Pan-guitch to take a 60-56 overtime win in the championship game of the Panguitch tournament. Acey Burn-ingham Burn-ingham made a spectacular 3-pointer 3-pointer to send the game to O.T., but the Bobcats missed too many free throw attempts which would have won the game against the number-one-rated Pirates. Mark (See SPORTS on page 3-A) SPORTS From Front Page Tebbs went for 14, Burningham 12 and Landon Fullmer 9, off the bench. Panguitch defeated Wendover easily 88-50 in their first game. (That box score was unavailable.) In other boys games, Tabiona, undefeated on the season, stopped Escalante 66-49, despite 15 from Nathan Lyman, 13 from Tyler McLemore and 10 from Terrence Mitchell. The Tigers also knocked off Bryce Valley 64-56. Ramsay and Twitchell each hit for 14 in that loss. Tabby was deadly in both games from 3-point range as they defeated two of our local teams. Tabiona girls played at Bryce Valley and Escalante, as well. The Lady Tigers defeated B.V. 53-30, but barely edged the Moquis 35-30. Jennifer Lyman scored 11 and Katie Griffin 10 for Escalante. Panguitch Girls took on a little "Big School" competition losing to 5A Skyview 58-49. Panguitch was led by Camile Christensen who went for 18 and Shelly Hatch who hit four three's on her way to 14. The Bobcats came back from a 20-point 20-point deficit to make it a game in the fourth quarter. All the teams resume league play this week. Bryce Valley boys - will host Piute on Friday night in Tropic and the BV girls play on Thursday, Jan. 4 in Wayne county. Escalante boys play Thursday night in Panguitch against the Bobcats and the girls will host the Panguitch Lady Bobcats that same night in Escalante. The girls will also play on Friday in Milford. Panguitch boys will also play in Wayne county on Saturday night and the Lady Bobcats will also host Piute on Thursday. The Panguitch boys game can be heard Saturday nite on KMXU radio at 7:15 p.m. In wrestling action, Panguitch will be in Parowan on Thursday and the Escalante JV tournament will be on Saturday in Escalante. |
