Karli Owens Sweeps Dance Contest For Five-Year-Olds PANGUITCH Karli June Owens, 5, of Panguitch made a sweep in her solo dance competition competi-tion recently at USA Dance Championship held at Lagoon. She brought home a huge "Tiny Miss High Point Queen" trophy in her five-year-olds division. Miss Owens was the over-all high point leader in her age category and was one of only six who received the "high point" recognition in the competition which features preschool pre-school through college dancers and is sponsored by Pageants Plus. This particular dance routine, to the tunes of "Lollipop" and "The Archie Theme," was choreographed and taught to her by dancer Amanda Lindsay of Parowan. Karli has taken lessons for one year from instructor DeAnn Graff also of Parowan and is studying locally now with Camille Anderson of Panguitch. She has learned some ballet moves but incorporates predominantly pre-dominantly jazz in her routines. She is excited in the future to go on to learning tap dancing. She began dancing at age four and in April of '94 took fifth attendant atten-dant in the Rammette Jr. Drill com -petition in Parowan. That event included in-cluded pre-school through 9th grade competitors and was sponsored spon-sored by the Parowan Rammettes. L Karli and the other queen and attendants at-tendants from Parowan will be featured on their own float in the 24th of July parade in Panguitch. Miss Owen's next competition will be in April '97 where she will compete in the Jr. Miss Dance Drill competition in Layton. Due to her win high point win at Lagoon she will now have to compete as a professional pro-fessional rather than an amateur. Karli is the only daughter of Gary and Karla Owens of Panguitch with three older brothers Tyler, 17, Austin, 15 and Kasey, 12. She is a granddaughter of DeVon and Vici Owens and Irene Cooper and great-granddaughter of June Owens all of Panguitch. |
