Show Honesty Above Reproaeh I was dismayed and angry when I read your editorial in the September 19, 1996 Garfield County News. I guess you have the right to print information as you see fit in your paper, but I don't feel you have the right to attack our County Attorney's character the way you did. To question his fairness and honesty, which in my opinion are above reproach, is totally unfair. You have the right to disagree with the way he handles the case and where it is tried, but do not question his character. I don't know if the people in the North Star case are guilty or innocent - that is for a judge and jury to decide. But I do know that Wallace Lee has and will continue to do his best for Garfield County in a fair and honest way. Sincerely, Allen K. Henrie EDITOR'S NOTE: We have always perceived Wallace Lee as a high-principaled, honest, sensitive and compassionate man. We honestly regret the need to make public some of the events that we have found it necessary to write about and we are still puzzled about his apparent acquiescence in them. Nevertheless, one of the most important responsibilities of the press and a duty to the public under the First Amendment is to present the facts about their elected officials. offi-cials. We feel that we, too, have been fair and honest. |
