Show Panguitch Council Members In The First 1999 Meeting PANGUITCH City council members met for the first time this year on Jan. 12 for discussion of city matters. Upcoming meetings were brought to the group's attention by Mayor Jon Torgerson. The Main Street Convention is coming up Mar. 22 - 25 in San Diego, Calif. Main Street Director Brad Houston will have more information at the next city meeting. City council member Mack Oetting was planning plan-ning to attend a legislative meeting in Salt Lake City on Jan. 20 and said he would bring information from the meeting back to the coun-' coun-' cil. The Community Planners Seminar, sponsored by the Utah League of Cities and Towns, will be held on Mar. 19 and 20. Oetting and City Manager Allen Henrie plan to attend that meeting. Another An-other Utah League of Cities and Towns meeting is being held Apr. 8 and 9. Ordinance 1999-1, renewal of council meeting times and dates, was approved as was ordinance 1999-2, renewal of the criminal code. The appointment of city officials offi-cials was discussed. The mayor decided de-cided to leave the council members in their position they already hold, except council member Janet Oldham Old-ham will act as mayor pro-tem for 1999. Mack Oetting will work with Rick Swanger on the Christmas Christ-mas lights committee this year. The city police force was consolidated consoli-dated with the county, so there will be no police employees. The question ques-tion of an animal control officer was brought up, but was postponed until the next meeting. The council unanimously decided de-cided to donate $200 to the Panguitch Pan-guitch Shootout basketball tournament, tourna-ment, which was held Dec. 29 and 30. The interlocal law enforcement agreement between Panguitch City and Garfield County was signed by the mayor and adopted and approved by the council members. The agreement will go before the county commission at its next meeting for approval by the county. Resolution 1999-1 was discussed dis-cussed among council members. The resolution was made between Bureau of Land Management and Panguitch City in which Panguitch City applied for 300 acres of recreational recrea-tional property from the BLM. Twenty acres of that land will be given to the county for the new jail facility. The resolution was created to rewrite the agreement and change it from 300 acres to 280 acres so that Panguitch City could resubmit the package to the BLM. Ordinance 1999-3, the Energy Use Tax for Questar, was addressed by the council as Jerry LeFevre questioned the two percent charge on Questar's billings. Allen Henrie explained that the two percent energy en-ergy use tax is applied only to the utility bills of properties where installation in-stallation of natural gas lines had impacted the city directly through road damage or other negative impact. im-pact. The assessment, which appears ap-pears on the Questar billing, is collected col-lected by Questar but is paid to the city to cover costs of repairs. Propane Pro-pane users are not affected. McCul-lough. A musical number was sung by Andrea Hathcock and Cynthia Prince. Panguitch 4th Ward LDS Sacrament Sacra-ment meeting was given by the missionaries in the area. Aaron Frandsen graduated from Pimary and was ordained a Deacon. His parents are Eldon and Jan Frandsen. Folks have been doing a little traveling during this spring-like weather. Art Crosby is back home from time spent in Phoenix, Ariz, watching the horse races. Bruce and Rita Heywood came from Fallon, Nev. to visit with parents Kay and Neilene Heywood and all of them went to Logan to Bruce and Rita's daughter Heidi's wedding in the LDS Temple. Bruce son, Elder Robert Heywood, recently went into the Missionary Training Center Cen-ter in Provo to prepare for a mission mis-sion to Russia. The Heywoods went north again to the baptism of daughter Kathy's girl. They live in Sandy. Steve and Susan Talbot flew from California to Provo to take their son Justin to the MTC to prepare to a mission to Argentina. The Dave Harris' are home from a two-week stay in Texas with their daughter Wendy's family. Wally and Lynette Orton came and took Wally's mom Alta Orton to Cedar City for a doctor's appointment. ap-pointment. Their sister, Joann has moved to St. George, so she came uup for a fun day with the group. Melba Davis visited her sister Myrtle Evans Davis at Christmastime Christ-mastime in Cedar City. Norma Talbot spent two. weeks with Hal and Roma Wilcock during the holidays in Cedar City. Her sister Janice and husband Kay Bern-son Bern-son came this past week from up north. They all went to St. George to visit Norma Jean and kay Bundy's family. Merle and Pauline Prince, Sheldon Shel-don and Lucille Proctor, Earl and Lola Henrie, Maloy and Carol Dodds and Bennett and Alfhild Josie went to Denver to the livestock show. |
