Show Moquis On Roll By John Yardley The Escalante Boys basketball team made it three-in-a-row league wins on Friday, stopping Piute 71-64 71-64 behind Ryan Cottam's 30 points and Derrick Shakespear's 19. Cottam's Cot-tam's return to the lineup has jump-started an already good team toward a championship quality squad. The Moquis led 36-30 at the half and put the game away when they had to. Panguitch go back on a winning win-ning track in region play, defeating Milford at Milford 61-53 in a game that was not that close. The Bobcats Bob-cats led all the way, including a 13 point advantage at the half. Junior's Jun-ior's Dusty Orton and Jason Barney nailed 17 and 16 points respectively, respec-tively, and Skyler Dalton, also a junior finished with 10. Bryce Valley lost to Wayne 65- 58 in another great effort by the Mustangs. John Shakespear hit 20 and Shannon Pollock knocked down 15 in his return to the lineup. Wayne leads the league. On Saturday, Bryce Valley played Grand County, a 2A school, close all the way, before falling 66- 59 in a tough road game. Pollock bombed away for 24 and Wayne Ott hit three treys on his way to 17 points to lead the team. With two close games against good teams, the Mustangs should be ready for a league home game against Panguitch Pan-guitch this Friday night. That could be a really good game. Panguitch girls stopped Escalante Esca-lante in a tight game at Panguitch 46-35. Lisa Duff came back strong with 20 and Camille Christensen hit 11. Saturday night, the Bobcats defeated Wasatch Academy 54-33. Pepper Hatch scored 16 and Camille Christensen 14. Escalante rebounded from the loss to Panguitch to defeat Milford 51-35. Angie Alvey's girls got great balance in scoring from Sarah Rollins (15), Becky Crawford (14), and Jamie Lyman (14). Brittany Sandefer was the leading scorer against Panguitch with 12. Bryce Valley's girls team lost to Piute 53-36, but Amy Johnson had another nice game with 15 points. Bryce Valley is making progress in their new program.
