By John Yardley Escalante and Panguitch each send their girl's teams to the State Finals this week. Both teams played their first game on Wednesday. Wednes-day. In last week's action, the PHS girls defeated Bryce Valley 70-27 as Jennifer Bulkley scored 15, Lisa Duff 13 and Cindy Peterson 1 1 for the Bobcats. Sheila Mathews knocked down 15 and Amy Johnson 10 for the Mustangs. Escalante lost to number-one-rated Valley 54-28 54-28 as Lisa Rollins hit for 12 to lead the Moquis. In boys Region 15 play, second spot is still up for grabs behind Panguitch. Piute narrowly escaped a big upset as they came from behind be-hind to defeat a much-improved Bryce Valley team 79-76. The Mustangs held the lead going into the fourth quarter, but lost down the stretch. Steve Hatch and his team have played some excellent ball the past few weeks and should be ready for the Region Tournament. Four Mustangs scored in double figures in a nice showing of balance. Lance Foster pumped in 19, John Shakespear 18, Brit Twitchell 11, and Paul Shakespear 10 for BV. Panguitch stopped winless Wasatch Academy 90-43 at home. Sonny Orton led the scoring with 15 as Henry James scored 13, Mayo Miller 12 and Jason Barney 11. It was business as usual for PHS who played a non-league game Saturday night at Duchesne as well. Pan- Sonny Orton kd the scoring with 15, followed by Mayo Miller's 12 and Henry James 13. Two County Girls Teams Compete At State Tournament This Week guitch defeated Duchesne 88-68. Nate Moore exploded for 30 points to lead the Bobcats. Other double-figure double-figure scorers were Mayo Miller with 19 and Henry James with 15. Valley beat Wayne at Wayne county and leaves the battle for second up in the air, with Wayne, Valley, Piute and Milford all vying for the number-two-secd in Region. ' : These Panguitch High School sophomores competed with other Region 15 teams in the area at the Sophomore Tournament and took a covented third place win. Cross-country skiers who were vacationing at Ruby's Inn during the Winter Festival competed in the annual 10K Cross-country ski race, held on Monday morning. In addition to the races, other competitions were held, including a people-powered sled race, ski-archery competition, kid's snow boot races, and many other winter-time demonstration classes. |
