Show Five contestants from all over Garfield County recently competed in the 1996 Miss Garfield County contest in Panguitch. Many prizes were awarded to the girls this year including scholarship money and a clothing allowance. The winners, left to Garfield County Schools will open for the 1996-97 school year on Wednesday, Aug. 21, with most schools on a four and one-half day schedule for the school year. All schools except Antimony Elementary will be open all day Monday through Thursday with a half-day set for Fridays. Schools in the district will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 2. The day at Panguitch High School will begin with breakfast served from 7:30 - 7:45 a.m. and school starting at 7:49 a.m. Classes will end for the day at 2:41 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 12:07 p.m. on Fridays. Lunch will not be served on Fridays, but will be served from 12:20 to 12:51 p.m., Monday through Thursday. New faculty members this year include Scott Hunt, who will coach and teach science, math and biology; his wife Tonya Hunt, who will teach English and Sherril Henrie who will be teaching English and drama. Back-To-School For Area Students The school day at Panguitch Middle School will begin at 7:49 a.m. and end at 2:41 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 12:07 p.m. on Fridays. Their breakfast and lunch hours will be the same as Panguitch High. There will be no lunch served on Fridays. Panguitch Elementary School students will start their day at 8 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m., Monday through Thursday and at 12 p.m. on Fridays. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 7:50 a.m., five days a week. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 2: 1 0 p.m. for grades 1, 2, and 3 and from 12:00 to 12:40 p.m. for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. No lunch will be served on Fridays. Kindergarten students begin their morning session at 8 a.m. and end at 1 1 a.m. The afternoon session begins at 11:40 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. On Fridays, the students will begin in the morning at 8 a.m. and end at 9:40 a.m. They will attend the afternoon session at 10:15 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. New faculty members this year are Cynthia Baker and Wendy Westwood teaching 3rd grade and Shawn Taylor teaching 1st grade. Bryce Valley High School students will begin their day at 8 a.m. and end at 2:54 p.m., except on Fridays, when students will attend school from 8 a.m. to 12:16 p.m. Elementary students will begin their school day at 8:05 a.m. They will end their day at 2:49 p.m. and on Fridays, at 12:11 p.m. The entire student body can have breakfast from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Elementary students can eat lunch at 11:25 to 11:55 a.m. High school students will eat from 12:16 - 12:46 p.m. There will be no lunch served on Fridays. Vicki Ahlstrom is back this year as the special education teacher. Carol Stewart will teach Kindergarten every day from 8:05 to 10:45 a.m. every day and Pat Shakespear will be teaching 2nd grade. Boulder Elementary students will be going to class in their new school building that includes several new classrooms for students. They will attend school from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday and until 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. Kindergarten students will be in session from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. There will be no lunch served, so students are asked to bring a lunch each day. Escalante Elementary will attend school from 7:55 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday and until 12 p.m. on Friday. The kindergarten students will attend from 7:55 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. every day. Breakfast will be served to the students from 7:30 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. each day. Lunch will be served for the 4th, 5th and 6th graders from 1 1:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 1 :50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. New faculty members this year include Emily Clove, 4th grade teacher; Linda Glover, 3rd grade teacher, Sheral Bernardo, Special Education teacher. Myron Carter will be the school's new principal. There will be no lunch served on Fridays. Escalante High students will be in school from 7:55 a.m. to 2:55 p.m., Monday through Thursday and on Fridays until 12:16 p.m. Breakfast is served from 7:15 to 7:55 a.m. and lunch from 11:24 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. There will be no lunch served on Fridays.
