Show Quilt Walk A Big Success By Caitlin Gochnour PANGUITCH The "Quilt Walk," a story treasured in Panguitch Pan-guitch history, was commemorated with the first annual Quilt Walk Festival, June 12 - 13. Cold weather didn't dampen the enthusiasm enthusi-asm or the attendance for the variety of events. The Quilt Show at the Panguitch Pan-guitch High School gymnasium displayed 262 fabulous quilts thanks to the proud quilt owners I who shared their treasures. Hundreds Hun-dreds of visitors as well as locals spent hours examining the beautiful quilts and reading the accompanying quilt stories. Those in attendance voted Nida Mae Jensen's quilt "Violets," Best of Show. The Quilt Classes were bustling with activity as 65 quilters from California, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and the southern Utah area learned new tricks and methods in 14 different classes. The Quilt Walk Dinner Theater played to a full house of well over 100 people on Friday night as an enthusiastic cast re-enacted the historic his-toric trek. A Thursday night revue also was well attended. The Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast Break-fast on Saturday morning as sizzling siz-zling as the bundled-up folks served 150 meals in the crisp morning air. The Show & Shine Antique Car Show displayed 15 vehicles under cloudy skies on the Zion's Bank lawn Saturday morning. Jim Taylor, Tay-lor, Panguitch, was awarded Best of Show for his 1955 T-Bird. .The Hometown Arts and Crafts Show hosted 20 crafters in the Social So-cial Hall on Saturday. A steady stream of customers examined the wares throughout the day. Finally, the pioneer homes tour showcased four homes: the Leon and Claudia Crump home, the Randy and Nancy Houston home, the LaMar and Pat Macklin home and the Mack and Pat Oetting home. The tour also showcased the Buffalo Java building with Frank Houston explaining period memorabilia memo-rabilia from his family's Southern Utah Equitable business days. Panguitch Main Street, which' ' sponsored the two-day event, felt the festival was very successful not only in drawing people to town but also in promoting community pride. |
