Show Bobcats Tie For League Lead By John Yardley Panguitch High School basketball team swept to two league wins over the weekend and ended up in a tie for first place in Region 15. The Panguitch victories over Escalante and Enterprise, coupled with the Wayne victory over Piute, gives the Bobcats a share of the league lead. Wayne, after tipping over Piute, fell to a good Valley team on Saturday. This creates a tie at the top between Panguitch and Piute at 5-1, while Wayne and Valley are tied for third and fourth at 4-2. In other games, Escalante defeated Fredonia 44 38 and lost to Milford in overtinu 71-70. Bryce Valley lost to Valley 71-48 and fell to Piute 55-45 on the road. Panguitch and Escalante battled to a 10-6 first quarter lead for PHS, before the Bobcats opened it up 36-20 36-20 at the half. Jim Smith's team struggled with turnovers, while Scott Hunt's crew was knocking down 16 of 18 free throws to pad their leading. Enterprise hit their first three shots and led 7-0, then 12-8 after one period. At the half the Bobcats came back to lead 18-17. Once they had the lead, PHS could play more of a regular game. The Bobcats won 48-36, but it was neither pretty or easy. It never is against Enterprise. Gaylen Dalton led the scoring with 14, but senior Dameon Julander and sophomore Austin Owens came off the bench to give the Bobcats a huge lift, scoring 8 and 11 respectively. Mayo Miller and Matt Tebbs had some big steals to start the second half and kept Enterprise from ever gaining back the lead.
