Pollock Is Outstanding District 73 Educator Panguitch High School English teacher Debbie Pollock was named Outstanding Educator for Representative Represen-tative District 73 in special ceremonies cere-monies held Monday in the chamber cham-ber of the House of Representatives at the Utah State Capitol. Pollock, seated next to Rep. James F. Yardley, District 73, was among 20 Utah educators so recognized recog-nized who were all seated next to their own district representative for the ceremonies. . Special speakers were Pat Hales, Utah State PTA president and Lilly Eskelson, president presi-dent of the Utah Education Association. Associa-tion. House Speaker Craig Moody read excerpts from essays contributed con-tributed by each recipient. Pollock's Pol-lock's essay focused on providing a guarantee of basic services to each student: "a positive experience promoting a positive self-esteem, skills necessary for entry into college, col-lege, vocational school, or immediate immedi-ate employment, a clear understanding understand-ing of the rights and responsibilities responsibili-ties of citizenship, and critical thinking skills necessary for a quality life." Pollock was nominated in November 1990 for the award by the Panguitch High School PTA. "She qualified for nomination," said PHS president Marilyn Marshall, Mar-shall, "because of her dedication to the teaching profession and her willingness to be involved with students and parents beyond the call of duty." Pollock has taught in the Garfield County School District for the past 11 years and currently teaches 9th and 1 1 th grades and college col-lege prep English and speech and drama at PHS where she also teaches driver education - in the car, not the classroom. Pollock graduated from Brigham Young University with a major in English education and a minor in psychology. She and her husband have three children. f Grateful for the recognition she received on Monday and for the initial ini-tial nomination by supporters in the local PTA, she said she was also pleased for the opportunity to get better acquainted with Rep. James Yardley and to discuss education educa-tion goals with him. |
