Show Garfield County Shows Population Increases Total population for Garfield County according to just-released 1990 census figures is 3,980, up from 1980's 3,673, a difference of 307 new residents. Escalante has contributed 166 of those, showing an increase from 652 to 818. Other communities showing increases are Panguitch with 1,444, up from 1,343 in 1980, an increase of 101; Tropic with 374, up from 338, an increase of 36; and Boulder with 126, up from 1 13, an increase of 13. Popu lation in the unincorporated areas of the county is 738, up from 711, an increase of 27. Communities, showing losses in population are Hatch at 103, down from 121 in 1980, a loss of 18 residents; res-idents; Antimony with 83, down from 94, a loss of 11; Henrieville with 163, down from 167, a loss of four; and Cannonville with 131, down from 134, a loss of three. The figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau are not intended for use in redistricting, with those figures fig-ures to released later. Current figures fig-ures are subject to possible correction correc-tion for undcrcounts or overcounts. Corrected statistics will be released no later than July 15. Utah's population is now at 1,722,850 with the state's number of congressional seats remaining at three. Garfield County is fifth lowest in population figures among the state's 29 counties, with only Wayne (2,177), Rich (1,725), Piute (1,277), and Daggett (690) counties showing lower counts. Garfield County's eight incorporated incorpo-rated communities claim four of the state's 1 1 lowest-population towns. Ophir (25), Scofield (43), Hiawatha (43), Antimony (83), Alton (93), New Harmony (101), Hatch (103), Brian Head (109), Tabiona (120), Boulder (126) and Cannonville (131). |
