Show FUNERAL SERVICE FOR MRS SKEELS on friday afternoon may the funeral service of mrs virginia skeels was wag held at the home of 0 her daughter mrs S A older ot of corinne mrs skeels was nearly ninety years of 0 age her long and useful life was tilled filled with many incidents of oc more than ordinary importance an efficient nurse during the civil war a pioneer teacher in the public schools schools ol of kansas a faithful wife mother and friend she splendidly accomplished her part in all these important relationships tion ships of life the house was filled to overflowing with friends and loved ones as rev nev clarence E D fowler conducted the short and simple service which marked the close ot of her earnest christian life on earth this christian mother had chosen her own funeral funer sl text it was the second verse of the psalm he mabeth rne me to lie lia down in green pastures illustrating her gratitude to god tor for the loving care and kindly friends friend he H had bad given her the following obituary was read at the funeral virginia stephenson skeels was born boni at athens ohio february fth 1839 and died at corinne utah uta h may 1926 aged eighty seven years and three months her parents moved from ohio to iowa when she was four years old where she lived until at the age 0 of twenty one she was married to daniel B skeels of new york the first year ot of their majied life was spent in wisconsin after which they located in northeastern kansas where mrs airs skeels was wa s for many years a teacher having organized and taught the first district school I 1 in johnson county during the war vax of 1861 65 she served as a nurse at paola kansas later the family moved to erie kansas where they lived on a farm far for many years during the years of her earlier life she was a writer of ability often contributing tr articles of merit to magazines and books and filling positions of honor and responsibility in organizations connected with the settlement and development of eastern kansas tive years ago tile the father and mother came to corinne utah that they might live near their two daughters mrs S A older and mrs C F shaw the father died sixteen years ago and office that time the other mother has made her home with her daughters for a number nui riber of years she cared for those who were ill and in ill many homes in this valley her kind administrations have been gratefully received As the years of her life declined and she was no longer able for active duty she spent the most of her time in work that would give joy and pleasure to other people knitting bitting sewing making embroidery a always lw tor for gifts to others she wrote many letters and the otten often receiving of messages from her friends in the east was a constant happiness to her 1 she became a member of the united brethren church many years ago in kansas was a faithful attendant of the corinne AT E church ever since living in utah served as chaplain ot of the af E ladies aid always giving the opening prayer and scripture reading of the meetings mee tings was a helpful member of wasatch camp ot of royal koyal neighbors and an honorary member of the state association she is survived by her two daughters tour four grand daughters and five little great grand children who were the joy of her life there are a number of nephews and nieces livings in iowa and kansas the many friends present friday and the beautiful benu tirui floral offerings they brought are only a small portion of her friends and the many beautiful tokens and gifts they have given her tor for years past and the hearts of 0 all the members ot of her family are filled with gratitude to all who have done so much to make pleasant the declining years of their aged mother |
