Garfield County, numbering over j! 200, and we also have members in Piute County." ' "Albrecht's willingness to vol- unteer his talents is part of the real i strength of Ducks Unlimited," says Matthew B. Connally, Jr., executive execu-tive vice president of DU. "Area chairmen serve as important links in the organization; without them Ducks Unlimited could not be successful." suc-cessful." For 50 years Ducks Unlimited has been helping to conserve wetlands wet-lands in North America. The greatest great-est majority of its funds come from membership dinners throughout the country. DU's fund-raising goal for 1988 is $66.7 million, Connally said. The PanguitchGarfield County area raised $6,300 in 1987 and has a goal of $8,500 for 1988. The local organization is competing for top honors in the state and is vying for awards to be made in May. New members are also being sought locally lo-cally to add to the ranks, said Albrecht, Al-brecht, who can be contacted at 676-8188. DU has wetland conservation projects in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. The projects make certain that there is water available for waterfowl water-fowl when they need it most. "With an annual loss of some 700,000 acres of wetlands in North America, Ducks Unlimited's job becomes more critical each year," adds Connally. Albrecht, a Panguitch resident, serves on the Panguitch City Council. He is manager of Peterson Oil Company. |
