Show Owens Accused Of Violations In (Wilderness Plan Garfield County planning and ning officials this week charged hat Rep. Wayne Owens (D-Utah) s circumventing local zoning ju-isdiction ju-isdiction by his support of wilder-kss wilder-kss for areas of the county. In a letter to the representative released this week, Planning Commission Chairman Garth Noyes informed Owens that the county areas Owens proposes to -Change to wilderness are not zoned jj(for wilderness. Noyes stated that ,J until Owens' proposals are brought " before the local planning commission, commis-sion, he is in violation of the legal statutes of the state he represents. Noyes, who lives in a remote area of the Henry Mountains and serves as justice of the peace in the Ticaboo area of the county, could not be reached by telephone for comment. Arnold Alvey, Escalante, a member of the eight member commission, said that the group agreed unanimously at their July 13 meeting to proceed with the letter. Alvey said the commission will meet August 10 at which time they will prepare questions for Owens who is due to head a town meeting in Panguitch on Saturday morning at 10:30 at the courthouse. He said the commission has asked for an answer. |
