Show March 17 Deadline Yields Final List of Candidates For Offices PANGUITCH The Garfield County Clerk's office has released the final list of official candidates who met Thursday's deadline for filing. Garfield County Commission Chairman Tom Hatch (Rep.) has filed for the District 73 scat being vacated by retiring James Yardlcy, also a Republican, who has held the post for the past 12 years. At the state Republican convention in May, 10-year commission veteran Hatch will face fellow Republicans Bob Russell, Kanab, a former Kane County commissioner and Kanab businessman and C. Kay Peterson, Loa, a Wayne High School science teacher and shceprancher. Also running is American Parly candidate M. Norman Gubler, LaVcrkin. District 73 includes Garfield, Wayne, Kane and Piute counties and portions of Beaver, Sevier and Washington counties. Filing for Hatch's commission scat A were Panguitch Mayor D.Maloy Dodds (Rep) and Garth F. Noyes (Dcm), Ticaboo. The commission com-mission B post being vacated by Slierrcll Ott is being sought by Democrat Richard Church of Panguitch Pan-guitch and Republicans Michael Jim Clarke, Cannonvillc; Bob Ott, Cannonvillc and Clare M. Ramsay, Tropic, who will face each other at the April 7 county Republican convention Filing for county clerk were Camille A. Moore (Rep), whose name was incorrectly listed in last week's Garfield County News, and Blaine A. Tcbbs (Rep). Both Panguitch Pan-guitch residents are seeking the seat being vacated by retiring County Clerk Hazel Rich. Filing for assessor were incumbent incum-bent Tom Simkins (Rep) who will face Timothy Tebbs (Rep). Also filing was Nephi G. Noyes of Ticaboo, Tica-boo, a Democrat. County Attorney Wallace A. Lee (Rep) has filed for re-election. He is running unopposed. Garfield Justice Court Judge John W. Yardley is also running for re-election unopposed for the nonpartisan non-partisan position. Incumbent Recorder Les Barker (Rep) of Henricvillc ,who was appointed ap-pointed when longtime recorder Mamie Hatch retired, will be challenged chal-lenged by Democrat James R. Cooper, Pangui-tch, Pangui-tch, also a Republican. They are Melvin B. Miller and Kevin D. Moore. Incumbent treasurer Judy P. Hcnrie (Rep), Panguilch, is running unopposed. Incumbent Precinct 4 school board member Rod Syrett of Bryce, is being challenged by Barton W. Palmer of Tropic and Patricia "Tr- ish" Thompson of Cannonvillc. The post is non-partisan. H. Dell LeFevre of Boulder has filed for re-election to his seat on the school board for Precinct 5. The county's Republican convention con-vention will be held Thursday, Apr. 7 at 8 p.m. at Panguilch Social Hall. The Democratic county convention will be held Saturday, Apr. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the Garfield County Courthouse in Panguilch. |
