Show Escalante Girl Is Utah Modern Miss ESCALANTE Trisha Cough-lin, Cough-lin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Pat Coughlin, has been named Utah's 1988 Modern Miss. She was selected to represent Utah on the basis of her academic achievement, community involvement, involve-ment, volunteer service and communication com-munication skills. She will compete in the 1989 America's Modern Miss National Finals on board the S.S. Emerald Seas. During the three-night cruise to the Bahamas in April of 1989, she will vie for over $25,000 in cash, scholarships and prizes. The Modern Miss program is responsible responsi-ble for over $1 million in scholarships, scholar-ships, cash and prizes that are awarded annually. The program is designed to give young women like Coughlin a showcase for their abilities, an opportunity op-portunity to be recognized, and a challenge to strive to be her best. She is currently involved in volunteer service for VISTA, an organization helping abused children. chil-dren. She serves as student-body vice president at Escalante High School where, as a senior, she graduates this week. She is also a Sterling Scholar finalist.
