Show UH MALE A CA L EA the mendelssohn male chorus ot of salt lake city which appeared at the tabernacle here saturday veiling evening was as greeted by a large and most appreciative audience tho the concert was given under the direction of 0 the box elder high be hool with james i jonsen isen sen chairman of 0 the lyceum committee in charge there were about forty five fire musicians in the chorus including miss bliss becky almond pianist dr W R worley tenor J delos jewkes bass robert S fisher cellist included in the chorus was our old townsman dr R T willey who was announced by mr air jensen and who in turn introduced the leading soloists of the evening the chorus was dir eted by spencer cornwall the program included eleven numbers seven by the chorus and four by the soloists each of 0 the latter giving encores in response to hearty applause mr air jewkes captivated the audience in his baritone solo the horn and responded with an encore which was equally as good dr worley warley with his hia splendid tenor voice was also warmly received his number being followed by several minutes of hearty applause miss bliss almond is a pianist of 0 rare ability and after her first number magic fire music from die Wal kure the audience would not accept her courteous bows in response to their applause so she just had to render another piano solo mr fisher pleased his hearers with his cello numbers to such an extent that an encore was all that would quiet the applause the tha numbers by the chorus were given in such time and harmony that they re sounded like the music from tour four great voices in which each of 0 the tour four parts were represented tho the singing was wonderful and heartily enjoyed by all present |
